$10 Series 1902 Plain Back National Banknote issued by The Farmer's
National Bank of Strawn, Illinois (Charter 7151). The note is in low
grade, but is intact. It has spent alot of its life in a wallet, and the
paper has beome yellow, and there is some green stains caused by
exposure to brass clasps. However, what it lacks in grade, it makes up
for in rarity, since the Kelly census stands at only 4 examples of large
size notes on this bank in Livingstone County. The note has good
signatures, especially the President's. |

| 1931 Iraq Currency Board Fourth Issue 5 Dinars Bank Note. On 19
April 1931, the Iraqi government passed Law No. 44, which provided for
the issuance of Iraqi currency. Under the new Law, the currency unit was
declared to be the Iraqi Dinar (I.D.), which was sub-divided into 1000
Fils. The Iraqi Dinar was to be linked to the gold standard and
administered by an independent authority based in London. Under article
10 of Law No. 44 of 1931, the bank notes to be issued by the Currency
Board were to be in the denominations of ¼, ½, 1, 5, 10 and
100 dinars. These notes were to be issued by the Currency Board, for the
Government of Iraq, until a National Bank could be established to issue
currency. The date on which the first bank notes issued by the Iraq
Currency Board were placed into circulation is uncertain. According to
Iraqi Currency Development stages 1997 (published by the
Central Bank of Iraq), the first bank notes were released into
circulation on 16 March 1932 under Royal Decree No. 59 of 16 March 1932
(by authority of Law No. 44 of 1931), two weeks before the deadline of 1
April. Designed by Sir E. Hilton Young and printed by Bradbury Wilkinson
and Company, the notes of the first issue were prepared with a common
style, but each note was distinctly different. The principal elements
common to the front of each note are a portrait of Faisal II as a boy to
the right and a watermark of the King in a white area to the left. The
front of each note of the first issue carries text in Arabic which reads
(for the 5-dinar note): Government of Iraq, Five Dinars. Currency note
issued and convertible into sterling in accordance with the provisions
of Law No. 44 of 1931. The same text appeared on the back of the notes
in English. Signatures: "Lord Kennet" & "Atta Amin".
Dominant color: Light brown. Size: 176 x 96 mm. Condition: Very Fine
(VF). Note has been folded, was pressed and cleaned, no pin holes |
